flight path

as part of the crow crow collective we set ourselves the task to create a piece of work around the theme "mechanical birds". As my response to this I am attempting to create a mark making "machine" looking at intervention and interaction. It is currently taking the form of different experiments. be the same. some kind of process.

I have decided to go back and look at the "be the same, some kind of protest" piece of work I had done before and give it another go. This is still a work in progress but I am already happier with this outcome.

how about telling me a story?

New work, just finished. This looks at the idea of prescribed stories. The blocks have contrasting words on each side so you can flip it over and change the story.
I want to make some books to accompany this. We'll see how it goes...

same process different outcomes

used fabric, sewing

I've been trying to focus on subjecting things I make to the same processes and seeing what different outcomes I can get. This is only the start and, probably, the most contrived but i think there is something going on...

just an idea

these pieces were made to send out to a number of art "funding" or "support" agencies (such as councils - you know who you are!) after an incident in the summer where I ended up feeling like a box ticking excercise- but I'm over it now so I wont go into detail!

These are going to be part of my residency exhibition in March and the remainder will be distributed as and when...

people in grass houses...

this is my new favorite thing to do in the studio... houses, made of paper and filled with soil and grass seed.
These are just a few. I hope to have many.

to celebrate non-functionality I have made an army of non-flying birds.

a long time coming

wow. it was hard getting it together this summer. Very glad to be back in my studio where I have my own space and just get on with things with no other distractions. After a frustrating struggle these happened...

Brand new and shiny FBS Arts site

Luckily for me I am currently the artist in residence at the Frances Bardsley school. The work these girls produce is pretty impressive... go on look!

Scouting for Art online gallery

The kind folks at scouting for art have given me a gallery page to represent my work. Exciting times! I'm hoping it will be an opportunity to get involved in few group shows and meet a few more artists.

Have a look and see what you think.

Celeste Prize.

I thought I'd try my luck and enter this art competition. It, so far, has been a great way to see what others are up to and get some feedback from other artists from across the world.

I decided to enter "evolution or one thing after another" because, well, just because it currently my favorite. I think it has alot of integrity.

You can see my entry here and read more about the competition

(oh.... and any of you out there who are registered members of Celeste feel free to vote for me!)

a new little bit of work...

evolution or one thing after another.
used fabric. 2009.

a few pictures from the opening night...

... more to follow when I track down those people with cameras. I had the usual "i am sure i took more" feeling but in reality the wine took over and that was the end of that.
Anyway here's a few so you can get the idea...

mmm...free food. The mainstay of any good private view.

Velocity. framed at last!

I had a few points where viewers could take part, create and add to the show. I thought it would be a nice way to document the exhibtion rather than just through photos. Here is what happened on the opening night...

These have been really cool to watch evolving and growing but the postcards have really blown me away. The wall is now pretty much covered with pictures and notes and little secrets. Thank you all to those that have taken the time to do them and, better yet, leave them to be part of the exhibition.
